Along with Apple’s iPhone, the latest generation of Samsung’s Galaxy S series, which in 2023 will probably be called the S23, is one of the most-anticipated smartphone releases each year.
What can we expect when the Samsung Galaxy S23 line comes out? When will it be available to buy? How much will it cost? What new features and standards will it bring? Will the company shock us with a new piece of technology?

This is all we know so far.
When will Samsung’s Galaxy S23 launch?
When it comes to putting out its Galaxy S phones, Samsung sticks to a pretty steady schedule. It usually announces them and puts them out each year in January or February. This looks like it will happen again this year, and all signs point to the S23 series coming out on February 1, 2023. At least, that’s how it looks on Samsung Colombia’s website.
It doesn’t show up anymore, but some people were able to take a screenshot of it before. We think this date is pretty likely since other leakers had already said it would happen on February 1 and several reports said something would happen in the first week of this month.

Here’s an example of when the last generations were shown:
Samsung Galaxy S22 : February 2022
Samsung Galaxy S21 : January 2021
Samsung Galaxy S20 : February 2020
Most of the time, these releases include the S model, as well as the Plus and Ultra models. This is why this article about rumours will focus on these models.
In 2020, Samsung released the FE (Fan Edition) models, which are basically a toned-down version of the standard Model S. For now, their release dates are more random, but they always come out a few months after the other models.
In this way, the Galaxy S20 FE came out in October 2021, and the Galaxy S21 FE came out in February 2022, right before the S22 range.
Based on the rumours we’ve heard so far and the way Samsung seems to do things, the Galaxy S23 models are likely to come out in February 2023, not long after the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE (if it arrives, it could have been cancelled).
Samsung Galaxy S23 price?
Again, Samsung hasn’t given us any official information about how much the Galaxy S23 might cost. But the younger generations can give us an idea.
First, this is how much the standard model has cost:
Samsung Galaxy S22: from €849 / MXN$21,999
Samsung Galaxy S21 : from €849 / MXN$21,499
Samsung Galaxy S20 : from €909 / MXN$19,999
Then, there are the Plus models:
Samsung Galaxy S22+ : from €1,059 / MXN$25,999
Samsung Galaxy S21+ : from €1,049 / MXN$24,999
Samsung Galaxy S20+ : from €1,009 / MXN$24,999
And finally, the Ultras:
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra : from €1,259 / MXN$30,999
Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra : from €1,249 / MXN$29,999
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra : from €1,359 / MXN$29,999
Samsung has had very clear price ranges for the range for the past two years, so we don’t think much will change for the 2023 range.
What are the Samsung Galaxy S23’s specs?
The S23 range might be coming out soon, so Samsung might soon confirm the hardware officially.
At this point, all we have to go on are the leaks, rumours, and news stories that have been going around online about what we might see in 2023.
Design
Last year, Samsung decided to keep the design of the base model but update the Ultra. In 2023, it looks like it will do the opposite, bringing all three phones back in line.
OnLeaks posted rendered images of the S23 and S23+ on Digit. in and Smartprix, which you can see in the gallery below (the S23 is white and the S23+ is black). Most of the phone looks the same, but the camera module has changed a lot. It is now made up of three small circles with the flash in between them.
These leaks also show the phones’ sizes, which, as you can see, are very similar to those of the last generation, even though the phones are slightly bigger overall:
- S22: 146.0 × 70.6 × 7.6mm
- S23: 146.3 × 70.8 × 7.6mm
- S22+: 157.4 × 75.8 × 7.64mm
- S23+: 157.7 × 76.1 × 7.6mm
- S22 Ultra: 163.3 × 77.9 × 8.9mm
- S23 Ultra: 163.4 × 78.1 × 8.8mm
This is the size they will be, but what colours will they come in? Ross Young, who leaked the information, says that the S23 will come in four colours. Yes, he says that all three models will have the same colours. Roland Quandt made the same guess about the colours of the S Pen when he looked into accessories for the S23 series. Since the colours of last year’s S Pen were exactly the same as those of the Ultra, it looks like all four colours of the phone are confirmed, though Quandt says the list may not be complete.

main specifications
Samsung usually puts the latest processors in its Galaxy devices. In this case, it’s likely that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that was just announced will be used.
Leaked Geekbench results for The Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 +, and Galaxy S23 Ultra have already shown that this chip is in all three phones. All three phones also have 8GB of RAM.
The results of the tests look good, but since this is pre-production hardware, it’s too early to really judge how well it works. When the first phones with this chip come out, we will know more.
These tests show that the main core clock speed is 3.36 GHz, which is faster than the 3.2 GHz that the chip is supposed to run at. Leakers like Ice Universe have started to think that Samsung has access to a faster, exclusive version of the 8 Gen 2 that should give the S23 lineup a slight performance edge over the competition.
In the past, the company used Qualcomm chips in the United States while its own Exynos chips were used in Europe and some other places. This looks like it will change, though, and Qualcomm has already promised Samsung that it will use its chips until 2030.
The reason for the change, according to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, is that Samsung isn’t sure that it’s upcoming Exynos 2300 will be competitive enough with the 8 Gen 2 and doesn’t want there to be too much difference in performance between versions of the Exynos 2300.
RealmiCentral said in an earlier report that Samsung has decided to focus on making new custom processors for the Galaxy line instead of its Exynos chips, which are sometimes used by other phone makers. These new processors won’t be ready for a while, though. a few years’ time.
Because its engineers had to be reorganised to work on this project, work on the current Exynos chips could be cut back or stopped. This would mean that the Galaxy S23 models and possibly the S24 models on the European market would have Qualcomm processors.
Even though this is a big hint about what the chips in the S23 series will look like, a leaker named Ice Universe said in September that even though Samsung’s mobile department isn’t happy with how the Exynos chips work in the S22 phones, the company’s top executives still want some models in some regions to be powered by Samsung chips instead of Snapdragon chips.
Back to the specs, leaker Yogesh Brar has said that the standard S23 will have 8GB of RAM, but he thinks that users will be able to choose between 128GB and 256GB of storage.
There is a chance that the RAM is Samsung’s new LPDDR5x, which can handle transfer speeds of 8.5 Gbps, the fastest currently available in mobile telephony. There should also be a 12GB RAM option for the Ultra model if all goes well.
ET News says that Samsung will do what Apple and Huawei have done and add satellite communications to their phones. As in the other cases, they will probably only be able to send basic text and picture messages and will probably only be used for emergencies when there is no normal phone signal.
Screen
As we’ve already said, and based on what’s been leaked, all three S23 phones will be about the same size as the ones that came before them. So, it doesn’t seem strange that the screens are also the same size: 6.1 inches for the S23, 6.6 inches for the Plus, and 6.8 inches for the Ultra.
Also, it looks like the resolutions will be the same: 23401080 for the S23 and S23+, and a more detailed 30881440 for the S23 Ultra. Yogesh Brar adds that the standard model should have an AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
RGcloudS, another Twitter leaker, says that the S23 Ultra will have a bright panel with a maximum brightness of over 2,000 nits, which is much higher than the S22 Ultra’s 1,750 nits. We don’t know this leaker well, so we’ll take what they say with a grain of salt.
People have also thought about what might be behind those screens. Someone on Twitter says that Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor could be used in the S23 Ultra.
This scanner, which was already on the Vivo X80 Pro, is bigger and faster than most of its competitors. It makes it easier to unlock a device because you don’t have to touch such a specific spot. You can also turn on extra security options that require the use of two fingerprints at the same time.
Ice Universe has questioned this by sharing a photo of a screen protector from the S23 Ultra, which shows that the fingerprint sensor area isn’t any bigger than it was before. This could be caused by a number of things, so it doesn’t prove that we won’t see the biggest sensor, but it does suggest that we won’t.
battery and charging
All those pixels and processors are going to need a lot of power, so it’s good news that @TheGalox_ said Samsung may be working on a new battery design that would make phones more powerful without making them bigger.
The Twitter post says that the S23 Ultra’s battery should be at least 5,500mAh, while the S23+ will have a 5,000mAh cell and the regular S23 will have a 4,500mAh cell.
Sadly, this no longer seems likely. Ice Universe is less optimistic and thinks that the S23 Ultra will have at least the same 5,000mAh battery capacity as its predecessor. He sent a picture of the cell.
Galaxy Club agrees but says that the S23+ will have a higher capacity than its predecessor, which was 4,500 mAh. Lastly, Ice Universe thinks that the standard S23’s capacity will go up from 3,700 mAh to 3,900 mAh.
The fact that the phones are listed on the FCC certification site, which includes battery capacity, is proof of these two specs.
Brar has talked about charging and said that the base S23 will have 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
Even though the battery capacity wouldn’t change much (and it doesn’t at all on the Ultra), adding a power-saving mode could make the battery last longer.
This model has already been added to the company’s Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 foldable phones. It slows down performance slightly to prioritise battery life and cooling efficiency, and Ice Universe says it will also be added to the S23.
So far, that’s all we’ve heard about the Samsung Galaxy S23 in terms of news and rumours. We will, of course, keep adding to this article as we learn more, so be sure to check back often.

cameras
One of the best things about Galaxy phones is that they have great cameras. It is said that the new 200 MP sensors will be in the main lens of one of the 2023 models, most likely the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Samsung has already released three 200 MP sensors (the HP1, the HP3, and the HPX), but none of them has been used in any of the company’s devices. However, they have been used in the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, the Xiaomi 12T Pro, and the Redmi. Note 12 Pro.
Thanks to ChameleonCell technology, which is a clever way of combining pixels, the sensors should work well even in low light. But the person who leaked Ice Universe doesn’t think that Samsung will use any of the sensors that have already been announced. He thinks that the S23 Ultra will instead use the HP2, which hasn’t been announced yet. As you might expect, it will be somewhere between the HP1 and the HP3 in terms of size.
Ice has also shared what it says are photos taken with the 200 MP camera on the S23 Ultra, which it says has an aperture of f/1.7. On the left is one of them, and on the right is one made with the S22 Ultra. We’ve heard that, besides the main camera, the S23 Ultra will have the same ultra-wide, 3x zoom, and 20x zoom lenses as the S22 Ultra (thus, it will use two 10MP telephoto lenses and one 12MP ultra-wide).
Ice Universe says that the changes to the way the computer works will make it “obvious” that the quality of the camera, especially the telephoto lens, will get better. He also thinks the phone’s night photos will be “very strong and much better than the S22 Ultra,” which shows that Samsung is putting a lot of effort into algorithmic updates.
We don’t know if Samsung plans to change anything about the S23 Ultra’s selfie camera. So far, a 40 MP selfie sensor has been used in all three Ultra models.
The cameras on the standard S23 and S23+ should also change, but we don’t know which ones.
GalaxyClub says that the 10 MP sensor of the 10 MP telephoto lens on the base models will not change. Most likely, it’s the same 3x telephoto lens as the S22 series, but Samsung could make other changes while keeping the same resolution.
But the same site says Samsung is “considering” switching the S23 and S23+ to new 12MP selfie cameras instead of the 10MP lenses it has used since the Galaxy S10.
But we don’t know which sensor Samsung could use or if it will sit in a hole in the screen or under the screen like in the Galaxy Z Fold 3. “Industry sources,” told a Naver leaker that none of the S23 models will have a camera under the screen.
Ice Universe also thinks that the S23 series will be able to shoot 8K video at 30fps, which is faster than the last generation, which could only do 24fps. This is already possible on some phones made by other companies, but this would be the first time it was possible on a Samsung phone.
